laurent is the current prince of vere (think french-inspired fantasyland). he was a bookish and relatively sweet child growing up, the opposite of his older brother, auguste, the crown prince and the kingdom’s golden boy/would-be king. auguste was everything to laurent — beloved brother, friend, protector, and the only person laurent ever needed. when laurent was 13 years old, auguste was slain in battle by prince damianos of akielos (think ancient greece-inspired fantasyland), leaving laurent at the mercy of the vicious veretian court.

alone and drowning in his grief, laurent’s uncle, the regent, took advantage of laurent’s vulnerable state and began to abuse him emotionally and sexually. this went on for an unspecified amount of time. when laurent reached an age when he was no longer desirable to the regent (a known pedophile), the regent abandoned laurent emotionally and began to slander his name around the court in a long game to steal the throne. since then, laurent has been engaged in a deadly political battle of wits against the regent, who has made multiple attempts on laurent’s life.

viciously intelligent and now hardened by years of abuse and isolation, laurent is unrecognizable from the sweet and bookish boy he used to be. he has spent years honing himself into a deadly swordsman so that he might one day face damianos, his brother’s killer. laurent is highly disciplined, never drinks (though this is due to being poisoned as a child while raped by the regent), never takes lovers or slaves, and is known by all as a frigid bitch. you never want to get on his bad side, and as for his good side, he doesn’t have one.

all of that out of the way, laurent does have a very sweet side buried deep beneath all of his layers of trauma. he possesses many noble qualities that are desirable in a ruler, but has never gotten the chance to prove himself because he's been too busy simply surviving the viper's pit of the palace. laurent does not want his kingdom to come to war again, and he actively takes measures to protect the palace slaves when he can. he especially has a heart for children who have been sexually abused as he was. no one has ever gotten close enough to laurent to see through his cold exterior, and he is very difficult to become emotionally intimate with due to his heavy fear of trust based on the harm he's suffered in the past.

CANON POINT — i kind of flub this depending on who i'm threading with but sort of early around book two when laurent is on his campaign to the border is the default for crosscanon.

PHYSICAL CONTACT — yes but (sirens)

WARNINGS/TRIGGERS — as mentioned, laurent is a csa survivor and has a lot of trauma surrounding intimacy. that being said, as laurent was exposed to sex at an extremely young age, and because sex is flaunted in general at veretian court, laurent can and will speak in a very casually filthy manner if he wishes to. laurent also has anger issues that can cause him to be unreasonably cruel at times. he's been known to take things too far when it comes to punishment and requires someone with a strong moral compass to rein him in.

SHIPPING — laurent is very slow to ship and is very bewildered and offended by his own feelings and desires. he has extreme trauma when it comes to intimacy but is unfortunately filthy af as a byproduct of his trauma. i personally am very open to shipping but it will be complicated and hard and likely Not Pretty. if that is your jam, we are of the same mind. laurent is pretty firmly m/m leaning in canon, so i lean that way for him too, but i am open to all sorts of vibes.

HUGGING — laurent has probably not been hugged since he was 13 when his brother was alive. we do not recommend it.

FLIRTING — yes he spends a lot of time trying to get out of these situations because he’s a very pretty bitch.

ROMANCE — he literally doesn’t know anything about romance. he is NOT going to woo you and he’ll be (deer in the headlights) if you are romantic to him. laurent has never been in a relationship and has never had sex with anyone except for his uncle who raped him as a child.

FIGHTING — the most common reaction people have to extended conversation with laurent is a strong desire to beat his ass, so yes. laurent is an excellent swordsman and is deceptively strong, but can be overpowered due to his stature. he prefers to approach situations with his mind rather than with violence.

INJURY — yes this is my favorite trope.

MIND-READING — yes help yourself to this trauma. learning his most guarded secrets/traumas is a nearly unbearable intimacy for him and can lead to instant rejection and/or violence.

MANIPULATION — laurent IS the manipulative nest of scorpions, but yes do it to him so he can come for your throat/be mortally offended.
